Marty Leedy named Ohio Contractors Association Columbus Chapter Executive Committee Member
Ohio/Northern Kentucky General Manager Marty Leedy speaks to what it means to bring the Mt. Carmel perspective and industry leadership to Ohio’s construction community.
What OCA Represents in Heavy Highway Construction
The Ohio Contractor’s Association has been engaged with the heavy and highway construction community for over 100 years. This has allowed OCA to become an ingrained part of this industry and the many entities that interact with it such as federal, state and local governments, unions, related associations and businesses and educational institutions, to name a few.
Bringing the Mt. Carmel Voice to the Table
Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group has been a member of OCA for 30 years and as a specialty
contractor, my Executive Committee membership with the Columbus Chapter will provide support for local charity events and organizations, assist with the evaluation and distribution of scholarships for individuals looking to join our industry and to continue to build upon new and existing relationships with customers and suppliers.
How Industry Involvement Shows Up on the Jobsite
In addition to continuing to develop and build relationships, our participation will help OCA and our fellow members’ efforts to build a stronger bond between Contractors and Government. OCA’s direct input and coordination with the Ohio DOT’s specification protocol provides a more direct pipeline for their members regarding upcoming and proposed specification adjustments and interpretations.
Ohio Is Core to Mt. Carmel’s Growth
Ohio, and Columbus in particular, continue to grow dramatically. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission projects that the Central Ohio region, which includes 15 counties surrounding Columbus, will exceed the 3.1 million population mark over the next 25 years, effectively doubling the current population. Growth at that scale brings construction and infrastructure challenges that are unique to fast-growing population centers.
Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group has been working in and around Columbus for many years and has built strong relationships with contractors and suppliers throughout the region and across Ohio. Those long-standing relationships, along with newly developing ones, continue to create significant growth opportunities. Completing more than 200 jobs in Ohio each year, the Ohio Region represents a substantial portion of Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group’s total annual workload.
Work volume and overall project value in the Ohio Region have grown year over year during the past several years. One of the clearest examples of this growth is the current surge in data center projects throughout Central Ohio. While large warehouse development drove much of the market in previous years, the continued buildout of hyperscale data centers in what is often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of the East” has become the primary market focus and is expected to remain so in the years ahead. These types of multi-acre sites almost always come with roadway enhancements that require our scope of work, which brings additional opportunities. With deep roots in the region and continued investment in people and partnerships, Mt. Carmel is positioned to lead as Ohio’s infrastructure demands continue to grow.
Being Local Matters
When customers call for an opinion, to request a meeting or to ask for guidance, there is NOTHING more valuable to them than being able to say, “When and where? I’ll meet you there.” When customers know that they have access to our experience, knowledge, and calendar, stronger relationships naturally follow. Relationships are the basis of everything that we do, and being local helps establish, build and strengthen relationships.
Excellence, the Mt. Carmel Way
My definition of “Excellence” is finishing each project with satisfied employees and customers who are more confident in our capabilities than before we started the job. Confidence in our people and our product creates long-lasting relationships with customers, suppliers, and regulators. Confidence within our people not only projects professionalism, but it also shows internal leadership that the employees are growing within and beyond their current responsibilities, assuring future successful leadership and relationship management.
